American Flag Collection

The American flag is more than fabric and color. It's 250 years of history, sacrifice, and national identity — and the way you display it says something about who you are.

At Flagwix, the American flag collection brings together bold patriotic designs across every display format: grommet flags for flagpoles, fan flags for porches, house flags for bracket poles, and garden flags for walkways and beds. Every flag is custom-printed to order with UV-resistant inks on heavyweight canvas — built for outdoor display through sun, rain, and wind.

What Do the Colors of the American Flag Mean?

The colors of the American flag were officially described in the Great Seal of the United States, adopted in 1782. While the flag itself predates the official color descriptions, the symbolism has become widely recognized:

Red represents hardiness and valor — the courage and sacrifice of those who have fought for the nation.

White represents purity and innocence — the ideals of justice and integrity that the republic was founded upon.

Blue (specifically the blue canton holding the stars) represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice — the ongoing work of maintaining the democratic principles the country was built on.

The 50 stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies — the founding states that declared independence in 1776.

American Flag for Every Occasion

4th of July and Independence Day The peak season for American flag displays. Grommet flags, fan flags, and fence banners create maximum visual impact for Independence Day gatherings, neighborhood parades, and home displays. The 2026 celebration marks America's 250th — a once-in-a-generation occasion worth marking with a commemorative flag.

Memorial Day A day of remembrance for those who died in service to the country. Traditional grommet flags flown at half-staff until noon, then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. Military tribute flags and Thin Blue Line designs are especially popular for Memorial Day displays.

Veterans Day Honoring all who served — not just those who died, but every veteran who wore the uniform. Military branch flags, POW/MIA flags, and American eagle designs are popular choices for Veterans Day displays.

Year-round patriotic display Many Americans fly the American flag year-round as a permanent fixture of their home. For continuous outdoor display, choose UV-resistant canvas construction — it holds color significantly longer than standard polyester.

The American Flag: 250 Years of Stars and Stripes

In 2026, the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary — the Semiquincentennial. From the first 13-star flag sewn in 1777 to the 50-star flag adopted in 1960, the American flag has been redesigned 27 times. Each iteration marked a new state joining the Union, a new chapter in the nation's story.

Today, the flag we fly carries all of that history. The 50 stars represent the 50 states. The 13 stripes honor the original colonies. And the colors — red for valor and hardiness, white for purity and innocence, blue for vigilance, perseverance, and justice — make it one of the most recognized symbols on earth.

At Flagwix, every American flag in this collection is designed to carry that weight — with the boldness, durability, and craftsmanship the Stars and Stripes deserve.

America 250th Anniversary Flags — 1776 to 2026

The 250th anniversary of American independence is a once-in-a-generation milestone. July 4, 2026 marks exactly 250 years since the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia.

Flagwix's America 250 collection honors this moment with limited-edition commemorative designs: classic Stars and Stripes with "250 Years" emblems, heritage Betsy Ross 1776–2026 tributes, constitutional We The People anniversary designs, and patriotic eagle flags for the Semiquincentennial.

If you're planning a 4th of July 2026 display, a Memorial Day tribute, or simply want a flag that marks this historic year — these limited designs are available now.

Types of American Flags — Choosing the Right Format

Grommet flags (3×5ft) — for flagpoles The standard outdoor American flag. Brass grommets on a canvas header attach to any residential or commercial flagpole. UV-resistant, weatherproof, and designed to fly continuously. The most traditional format for home flagpoles, fence mounting, and vehicle displays.

House flags (28"×40") — for bracket poles Mount on a standard angled bracket attached to your porch, garage, or house exterior. House flags hang vertically and are visible from the street — the most popular decorative American flag format for residential use.

Garden flags (12"×18") — for stakes and beds Compact flags that stake directly into garden beds, walkways, and planters. Perfect for adding patriotic detail around your landscape without overpowering it. Fits any standard garden flag holder.

Fan flags (non-pleated) — for porches and entryways A Flagwix specialty. Fan flags open into a decorative fan shape — eye-catching on a porch post, entryway wall, or interior display. Available in 1.5×3ft and 3×6ft.

Fence banners — for rails and fences Wide-format flags designed to attach to privacy fences, deck railings, and chain-link fences. Great for 4th of July parties, neighborhood displays, and large patriotic setups.

How to Display an American Flag — Etiquette Guide

The U.S. Flag Code outlines the proper way to display the Stars and Stripes. Key guidelines:

Outdoor display: The flag should be flown from sunrise to sunset on most days. If displayed at night, it must be properly illuminated. During inclement weather, bring the flag in unless it's an all-weather flag.

Mounting position: When mounted on a house bracket at an angle, the union (blue field with stars) must be at the peak — at the top and to the observer's left when facing the house. Never displayed upside-down except as a signal of extreme distress.

With other flags: The American flag always occupies the position of highest prominence — center and highest when displayed with other flags on separate poles; to its own right when displayed on the same pole as other flags.

Half-staff: The President or state governors may order the flag to be flown at half-staff to honor the passing of national figures or in times of mourning. Key dates include Memorial Day (half-staff until noon, then raised to full-staff), Pearl Harbor Day, and Patriot Day (9/11).

Retiring a worn flag: A flag that is worn, faded, or damaged should be retired respectfully — the preferred method is burning in a dignified ceremony. Many VFW posts and American Legion chapters hold regular flag retirement ceremonies.
